High Eire cricketer combating for all times in Gurgaon after liver failure

Simranjit Singh has been considered one of Eire’s standout cricketers since his debut in 2017. Over the course of his profession, he has performed 35 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and 53 T20 Internationals (T20Is) for Eire.

Irish cricketer Simranjit Singh, known as Simi Singh, is in critical condition as he battles acute liver failure in Gurugram. The 37-year-old all-rounder is currently in the Intensive Care Unit at Medanta Hospital, Gurugram, awaiting a liver transplant as per TOI. Singh’s condition took a severe turn after months of unexplained illness, and doctors are working urgently to stabilize him for the upcoming procedure.

From Punjab to Ireland: Journey of Simranjit Singh

Born in Mohali, Punjab, Simranjit Singh showcased his talent in cricket from a young age, representing Punjab at the U-14 and U-17 levels. Despite his early success, he missed out on a spot in the U-19 team, prompting him to move to Ireland in 2005 to pursue hotel management.

But cricket remained a part of his life. He joined the Malahide Cricket Club in Dublin in 2006 as a professional player, setting the stage for his future success with the Ireland national team.

Struggles Begin: Months of Illness with No Answers

Simranjit Singh’s health began deteriorating five to six months ago while he was in Dublin. He developed recurring fevers that mystified medical professionals, who were unable to identify the underlying cause. Singh’s father-in-law, Parvinder Singh, recounted their ordeal, explaining that after months of inconclusive tests in Ireland, the family decided to seek treatment in India.

Upon returning to India in late June, Singh underwent a series of consultations in Chandigarh, where doctors initially suspected tuberculosis. Despite receiving treatment for TB, including a prolonged course of antibiotics and steroids, Singh’s condition worsened, and he developed acute jaundice.

Transfer to Gurugram: Race Against Time

As Simi’s health continued to deteriorate, physicians at PGI Chandigarh identified acute liver failure and advised immediate transfer to Medanta Hospital, Gurugram.

The urgency was clear—there was a high risk that Singh could slip into a coma, after which a liver transplant would no longer be possible. His family made the decision to move him to Medanta on 3 September, where he is now awaiting surgery.

Ray of Hope: Wife to Donate Liver

In a hopeful turn of events, Simi Singh’s wife, Agamdeep Kaur, who works in Dublin, has stepped forward as a liver donor. With Singh’s AB+ blood type making him a universal receiver, doctors are optimistic about the match and believe the surgery will provide Singh with a much-needed lifeline. The transplant is expected to take place soon, with doctors hopeful for a successful outcome.

Simranjit Singh Career: Pillar of Ireland Cricket

Simranjit Singh has been one of Ireland’s standout cricketers since his debut in 2017. Over the course of his career, he has played 35 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and 53 T20 Internationals (T20Is) for Ireland, taking 39 wickets in ODIs, including a stunning 5/10, and 44 wickets in T20Is. His batting prowess includes a memorable century against South Africa, achieved against some of the world’s most feared bowlers.

In 2020, Singh was awarded a central contract by Cricket Ireland, a milestone that recognised his significant contributions to the national team.

Prayers for Cricketer in need

As Simranjit Singh fights for his life in Gurgaon, his family, fans, and the cricketing community are rallying around him, hoping for a successful surgery and a swift recovery. The cricketing world is holding its breath, praying that one of Ireland’s finest cricketers will overcome this challenging chapter and return to the sport he loves.
